Gunmetal Tenmoku Chawan

This tea bowl is obviously not a tenmoku style chawan. The glaze however is a metallic tenmoku formulation that was one of my first interesting glaze inventions. It fires a beautiful satin black at Cone 10 reduction, and if applied thickly runs, as it has on this tea bowl, forming beads that seem as if they’re about to drip off of the shoulder. The bowl itself was thrown from our house clay body and the bottom half of the bowl is unglazed, giving a contrast between the satin black metallic glaze and the matte black raw clay surface.
