Wood-fired Chawan

This tea bowl was thrown from a coarsely grogged porcelain, lined with a shino glaze, with the exterior left completely unglazed for a wood firing. Soda was introduced late in the firing process, and the combination of the soda and wood ash interacting with the clay body produced the beautiful atmospheric “glaze” on this pot.
