Clay: East Bay Clay BT Rose with Additions
Glaze: Traditional Shino over iron wash
Firing: Gas reduction · Cone 10
This bowl was thrown from a commercial clay body to which I added feldspar chunks, mica, coarse sand, and sawdust. These roughenging additions influenced the shape of the pot as they made the throwing and trimming more difficult and less regular. More importantly, the additions, created a rough surface texture for the glaze to interact with. After bisque the pot was brushed with an iron wash with a traditional shino applied on top.
